15 minutes into the movie a server appeared, took our order and returned 45 minutes later with our food. We went in, found our seats, and the movie started. On my birthday in 2015 we had a snow day (as we are both teachers) and chose to use my free ticket. However, as being a sapphire member (free membership as the theater was new) members receive a free birthday ticket. This time we decided that we would not be returning. Wanting to give the theater another try, we went back. My wife and I didn’t complain, as we had a gift card and again, felt kinks were still being worked out. Service, again was slow, average wait of 20-25 minutes before a server appeared after pushing the call button. Again, no free popcorn (at the time, I didn’t know premium seats came with free popcorn). My wife and I returned to use the rest of the gift card. We still had money left on the gift card a vowed to give the place another shot. The first time no one received their free popcorn and service was slow. You could tell they were still working out the kinks of a newly opened establishment. At the time, I thought our first experience was nice, the seats are flashy, comfortable, and the blanket and pillow are a nice touch. When the iPic first opened, I was lucky enough to win a $100 gift card from Pike & Rose to the iPic. I am willing to pay the price of a movie ticket here and the price of the food (as they are both way above any similar establishment) to receive quality service DURING a movie, however that is far from what has happened anytime I have visited. For those that don’t want to read the entire review, here is the short version: The advertised experience is not what customers are receiving. I love the idea behind it, but in all honesty, I have not had a single good experience here. I want to love it so much, I have seen six movies here (Interstellar, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I, Into the Woods, Selma, Pitch Perfect 2, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ). You are unable check the balance of your gift card without a PIN but you can operate it in for a new card with a PIN at one of iPic Theaters.I really, really want to love the iPic. If you have gift card without a PIN, you cannot use it online but you can use it at a store. WHAT YOU CAN DO IF YOU HAVE A GIFT CARD WITHOUT A PIN? It can only be replaced with original receipt. HOW CAN YOU REPLACE A STOLEN OR LOST GIFT CARD?įor lost or stolen gift cards please go to your nearest store with your original receipt.

The British captured New York City and its strategic harbor in the summer of 1776. The Declaration of Independence proclaimed that all men are created equal, though it was not until later centuries that constitutional amendments and federal laws would incrementally grant equal rights to African Americans, Native Americans, poor white men, and women. The Patriot leadership professed the political philosophies of liberalism and republicanism to reject rule by monarchy and aristocracy. The Continental Congress declared British King George III a tyrant who trampled the colonists' rights as Englishmen, and they pronounced the colonies free and independent states on July 4, 1776. The Patriots unsuccessfully attempted to invade northeastern Quebec and rally sympathetic colonists there during the winter of 1775–1776, though they were far more successful in the southwestern parts of the colony. Each colony formed a Provincial Congress, which assumed power from the former colonial governments, suppressed Loyalism, and contributed to the Continental Army led by Commander in Chief General George Washington. Patriot militia, joined by the newly formed Continental Army, then put British forces in Boston under siege by land, and they withdrew by sea. Open warfare erupted when British regulars sent to capture a cache of military supplies were confronted by local Patriot militia at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. Opponents of Britain were known as "Patriots" or "Whigs", while colonists who retained their allegiance to the Crown were known as "Loyalists" or "Tories". The other colonies rallied behind Massachusetts, and twelve of the thirteen colonies sent delegates in late 1774 to form a Continental Congress for the coordination of their resistance to Britain. The British responded by closing Boston Harbor and enacting a series of punitive laws which effectively rescinded Massachusetts Bay Colony's privileges of self-government. The burning of the Gaspee in Rhode Island in 1772, the passage of the Tea Act of 1773 and the resulting Boston Tea Party in December 1773 led to a new escalation in tensions. The British government repealed most of the Townshend duties in 1770, but retained the tax on tea in order to symbolically assert Parliament's right to tax the colonies. The British government deployed troops to Boston in 1768 to quell unrest, leading to the Boston Massacre in 1770. Tensions relaxed with the British repeal of the Stamp Act, but flared again with the passage of the Townshend Acts in 1767. The passage of the Stamp Act 1765 imposed internal taxes on official documents, newspapers and most things printed in the colonies, which led to colonial protest and the meeting of representatives from several colonies at the Stamp Act Congress. During the 1760s, however, the British Parliament passed a number of acts that were intended to bring the American colonies under more direct rule from the British metropole and increasingly intertwine the economies of the colonies with those of Britain. Before the 1760s, Britain's American colonies had enjoyed a high level of autonomy in their internal affairs, which were locally governed by colonial legislatures. The Americans in the Thirteen Colonies formed independent states that defeated the British in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), gaining independence from the British Crown and establishing the United States as the first nation-state founded on Enlightenment principles of constitutionalism and liberal democracy.Īmerican colonists objected to being taxed by the Parliament of Great Britain, a body in which they had no direct representation. The American Revolution was an ideological and political revolution that occurred in British America between 17. In 1995, in the year of Robert A Amaya's passing, on May 19th, the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil - before 9/11 - took place in Oklahoma City. First sent to the states in 1972, the Amendment stated that "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex". The Amendment had only received 35 of the necessary 38 state ratifications. In 1982, by the time he was 34 years old, on June 30th, time ran out on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). President Truman had received the first Medicare card since he had been the first to propose national healthcare law. In 1966, at the age of 18 years old, Robert was alive when on July 1st, Medicare became available after President Johnson signed into law the Medicare Act in 1965. Sputnik I was only 23 inches in diameter and had no tracking equipment, only 4 antennas, but it had a big impact. The shooter was tried, convicted, and hung in November 1949. The man, Nathuram Godse, shot Gandhi 3 times. The trait also gains additional bonuses whenever the Hydrocentric Ascension Perk has been selected. We hope that this covers those of you who want more freedom of choice for your species portraits, while still keeping the aquatic theme intact. It doesn’t require you to have an Aquatic portrait, but it will require your species to start on an Ocean World. We’re adding a new (zero point cost) Aquatic species trait. If you live underwater, raising the sea level can be quite useful.Īs you could see in the trailer, the Deluge Colossus Weapon can be unleashed to create a watery grave for your enemies! Ice Mining stations will increase mining station output in a system, as well as enable the Expand Planetary Sea decision, which will increase the planet size by 1. This is the first time we’re adding an Ascension Perk with a species pack, which in itself is also fun. The idea originally bounced between being a Civic or an Origin, but we realized it would make much more sense as an Ascension Perk. One of our first ideas related to the aquatic theme was to be able to mine ice and bring it back to your Ocean Worlds, to make them larger. Under the sea, there’s plenty of shinies to see! This new Civic will allow you to harvest the bounty of the ocean, by replacing your Farmer jobs with Anglers and Pearl Divers on your Agricultural Districts. I’m sure you’re all excited to take a look at the gameplay details, so let’s dive right in! I hope you will enjoy playing them as much as I will! Dolphinoids have been used in narrative examples during design meetings for many years, even prior to the release of Stellaris back in 2016, so I am particularly happy to see them finally becoming a reality. but no more! Aquatic Advisor, inspired by high seas adventure fiction Remember to w(f)ishlist it on Steam right now!įor many years now, I have been forced to play Stellaris without dolphinoids. Today we’re back to talk a little bit about the recent news that has no doubt sent ripples throughout the community by now, namely the newly announced Aquatics Species Pack! Great work though, it is very clear and easy to understand.įor the person who has everything: a great explanation of writing in the first, second, and third person. Quite clear, though i would appreciate it if you could include more examples of third person language. In formal works, this usage of the second person is considered inappropriate, and the term "one" is often used, roughly meaning "anyone" or "a person".e In colloquial speech, people often use the second person in this way, such as, "If you flip the switch, the light will turn on." In this case, it is possible that the speaker actually means that if any person flips the switch, then the light will go on. One would use "one" when referring to an action or something of that sort where the subject is not any particular person. In a situation where either first, second or third person could all be acceptable, how does one make the decision in which person to write? I was trying to figure out when use of the 2nd person is acceptable and appropriate in business communication. It helped me understand the difference to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person writing, but really did not help answer my original question. Now I understand the use of first person and third person. She tends to think and talk about them in a sense- this tends to lead to me writing these parts in third person, but her actual life (in present time) is written from her point of view such as- "we walked hand in hand toward the ice-cream parlour." Is that talking in first person? In another part, she describes a scene like this, "They had been driving home from a dinner when it happened." I figure that was in third person, but now I'm not too sure! Help, please! I am struggling to figure out what word would be used to replace was, but cannot be is! My story novel seems to be a little of both third and first person because my main character tends to have flashbacks where she is thinking about things that have happened in the past. The breakdown of when to use first, second, or third person in the different types of writing will definitely be a great reference guide for me to refer when I begin my own writing. Third person: No single character's perspective. Second person: Someone else telling the story of the main character. A couple of my friends and I were discussing this yesterday but we were confused on 'second person perspective.' We thought it went:įirst person: Main character's perspective. This goes for both the singular and the plural. The third person refers to the person or thing spoken about. The second person refers to the person spoken to. The first person refers to the person speaking. It's a mish-mosh of something vaguely resembling grammar and narrative technique. Ken Black's explanation of first, second and third person is woolly and not to the point. I have a third novel in mind and I’m still going to write it in the first person simply because of a habit. Since I started writing in the first person I think my mind is stuck in that format. I wrote it in the same first person because I continued on with the same story line and characters. My second novel is a sequel titled The Line-up. Two years and three drafts later and a PG rating I finally got it right. I listened to what they had to say and completely re-wrote the novel. I had basically written what would have been considered almost a porn novel. My first one is titled Father Unknown and is written in the first person from the viewpoint of a high school girl named Lisa Morgan and since I am a man I had to ask my wife a ton of questions on how she thought a female character would react under certain circumstances.Īfter I completed my first draft and let another female read my novel (not my wife) I found out I was way off base. If you look for an online course to learn Software design and architecture, you won't find many, forget about good ones.Īt the same, time if you look for courses to learn Java, Python, or JavaScript, you will find tons of classes. It's one of the essential skills for a software developer but often gets ignored. That's where software design and coding skills comes to rescue. You can quickly learn a programming language like Java or Python, but creating software using that programming language is a different thing. If you have been programming for a few years, then you know that Software design or System design is one of the tricky concepts to master. The solute response to daily melt pulses was relatively chemostatic, suggesting mobilization and depletion to be progressive rather than episodic processes. The high-frequency data revealed that the seasonal melt pulse was composed of numerous individual daily melt pulses. Both solutes exhibited a seasonal flushing response, with concentrations initially increasing as solute stores are mobilized by the melt pulse, but then declining as these stores are depleted. dilution) and hysteresis in C-Q relationships across a range of time scales, from interannual to sub-daily. We assessed both the direction (enrichment vs. Here, we present four years of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N) sensor data from a snowmelt- dominated catchment in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Increasing availability of high-frequency sensor data has shown that C-Q relationships can vary substantially across temporal scales, and in response to different hydrologic drivers. The STWB model can evaluate the effects of timber harvesting on changes in evapotranspiration (ET), including the reproduction of seasonal patterns of ET.Ĭoncentration-discharge (C-Q) relationships can provide insight into how catchments store and transport solutes, but analysis is often limited to long-term behavior assessed from infrequent grab samples. Our findings showed that the decreases in evapotranspiration due to 50% thinning were similar or different in different methods of measurement when compared with thinning in the other catchments around the world. The estimated annual and monthly evapotranspiration was compatible with the values monitored in the plot-scale interception, canopy transpiration, and ground surface evapotranspiration. According to a paired catchment analysis of estimated evapotranspiration, monthly evapotranspiration increased from 3 to 20 mm from June to December, while it decreased from 7 to 31 mm from January to May. The estimated evapotranspiration during the pre- and post-thinning periods were 840 and 910 and 780 and 860 mm/year in the catchments KT and KC, respectively. The short-term water balance (STWB) method between periods from 8 to 100 days was applied to the treated (KT) and control (KC) catchments. We examined changes in catchment-scale annual and seasonal evapotranspiration after 50% strip thinning, using runoff data from headwater catchments. Our findings highlight that the complexity of measurement environments is a major challenge when working with image-based methods. Nevertheless, a simple image processing approach (based on an automatic thresholding algorithm) did not compensate for errors due to natural conditions and technical setup. The image-based method was found to be a valuable asset for identification of confounding factors and validation of zero level occurrences. Thus, the highly variable longitudinal drying patterns of the stream reaches could be monitored. The results from 20 monitoring stations reveal that the riverbed was dry for > 50 \% at several locations and even for > 70 \% at most severely affected locations during July and August 2020, with the north western parts of the catchment being especially concerned. In order to assess under which conditions the QR-code based water level loggers (WLL) deliver data according to scientific standards, we present a comparison to conventional capacitive based WLL. Among other measurements it employs an image based method with QR codes as fiducial marker. A flexible longitudinal water quality and quantity monitoring network was set up in 2018. The Dreisam River in the South-West of Germany was affected by several hydrological drought events from 2015 to 2020, when parts of the main stream and tributaries fell dry. Recent technological advances facilitate the application of non-commercial measurement devices for monitoring environmental systems. Process understanding of the interaction between streamflow, groundwater and water usages under drought are hampered by a limited number of gauging stations, especially in tributaries. |
